Berlin - SMP advised Aignostics, a spin-off of the Charité Berlin and the Berlin Institute of Health, on its seed financing round. The volume of the round, led by the Boehringer Ingelheim Venture Fund, amounts to EUR 5 million. Other investors include High-Tech Gründerfonds, IBB Beteiligungsgesellschaft and Future Capital. The company says that it is planning to use the fresh funds to expand its portfolio in pharmaceutical research as well as to finance longer-term projects aimed at developing companion/complementary diagnostics (CDx) applications for clinical routine. Aignostics received comprehensive legal advice from a team led by SMP partner Martin Schaper.
"Aignostics demonstrates the impressive potential of the emerging AI technology. In addition to the increasing automation of business processes or the almost daily routine of controlling smart homes, solutions based on artificial intelligence are now increasingly also taking over important functions in the healthcare sector," says Martin Schaper.
Aignostics is a healthtech company located in Berlin. Based on artificial intelligence, Aignostics has developed a technology that detects and analyzes pathological changes in tissue and uses the data to support proper diagnosis. Back in 2011, a team of physicians led by Prof. Dr. Frederick Klauschen, together with researchers from the Fraunhofer Gesellschafts and the TU Berlin, led by Prof. Dr. Klaus-Robert Müller, laid the foundation for the pathology software with a first patent. At the beginning of 2018, researchers from the Charité and TU Berlin were then accepted into the Digital Health Accelerator (DHA) program of the Berlin Institute of Health, where Aignostics has been further developed as a spin-off.
